Wearable Weighted Vest

Weighted vest push-upA while back, I did a post that mentioned "wearables"--a term that usually refers to devices worn on the wrist to measure steps, heart rate, etc. But recently I got myself an early birthday present that's a different kind of "wearable": a weighted vest.

It's not for everyone, but it does have a variety of uses.

The vest is best suited for adding resistance to bodyweight exercises. (Note that it is not well-suited to wearing into malls or airports.) Some examples in the video below.

As mentioned in the video, I don't like it for running or jumping due to the stresses on the joints. Better to strengthen them with resistance exercises like squats and add "resistance" to running by pushing sleds or running up hills. You can use the vest for box jumps; i.e., just jumping up. As long as you don't have the joint-pounding impact of landing with the extra weight.

It's not for beginners, but for more advanced training it can be a nice tool. If you're looking for a new way to add resistance to bodyweight exercises, don't weight...in-vest in one today!

Be seeing you.
