I was talking with someone recently who was concerned about his daughter doing squats in her workouts. He didn't want any advice--he "used to lift weights" and "knows all about squats"--so there wasn't much of a conversation.
But I know he's not alone in his concern about squatting. But is it a bad thing to do?
Check out this video:
There are running disputes about different kinds of squats (front squats vs. high-bar back squats vs. low-bar back squats vs. Zercher squats, etc.), squat depth, Bulgarian split squats ("rear-foot-elevated spit squats" for the pedantic), and so on. But as a basic, everyday movement pattern, there's not much to dispute.
And if you're going to be doing some kind of squat every day anyway, shouldn't you want to do them well? (Hint: yes.)
Be seeing you.
